A crucial point occurred with less than seven minutes remaining, as Jalen Brunson was penalized with a technical foul for flopping, with the Knicks leading 88-86.

However, NBA referees have since conceded that Jayson Tatum had indeed fouled Brunson.
As per the NBA Referees’ statement: “We overlooked the contact involving their feet, which should have led to a personal foul and warranted a flagrant review. In the absence of this foot-to-foot contact, the type of exaggerated movement displayed by Brunson would typically result in a technical foul for flopping, rather than an unsportsmanlike one. It is possible to have both a foul and a flop on the same play, but it was the foot-to-foot contact that triggered Brunson’s motion, and a flop should not have been called.”

Brunson’s performance for the night encompassed 15 points, three rebounds, six assists, and three steals during his 33 minutes on the court.
While RJ Barrett led the Knicks with 24 points, they struggled to contain the offensive prowess of Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis. The duo combined for a remarkable 64 points, along with 19 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and five blocks.
With this result, the Knicks now stand at 0-1, and they are set to face Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks at the State Farm Arena in Georgia for their next game on Friday evening.
Conversely, the Celtics, with a 1-0 record, are gearing up to host the Miami Heat in Boston for their Friday matchup.
