LaMelo Ball's Comeback and Miles Bridges' Suspension

The Charlotte Hornets are set to begin their season with a home game against the Atlanta Hawks on October 25. While Miles Bridges remains suspended, LaMelo Ball’s comeback is expected to return after his injury struggles.

Here’s an update on the Hornets’ lineup status for the season opener.

LaMelo Ball’s Comeback

Ball missed the final 19 games of the previous season due to an ankle fracture. However, he participated in training camp and should be prepared for the season opener.

Ball showcased his readiness during the preseason, playing in four games and averaging 15.2 points per game in those exhibition matches. His shooting percentages ranged between 36% and 43% in each game.

Although the Hornets haven’t confirmed any minutes restrictions for Ball, he appears fit and ready to contribute against the Atlanta Hawks, particularly in guarding Trae Young.

Before his injury last season, Ball performed admirably, averaging 23.3 points per game in 36 appearances. He aims to continue his upward trajectory this season.

The Hornets have faced challenges in their guard depth during training camp. Both James Bouknight and Frank Ntilikina are sidelined with knee injuries until November. Cody Martin’s availability is a game-time decision due to knee problems.

Miles Bridges’ Suspension

Regarding Miles Bridges’ suspension, he was banned by the NBA for 30 games in April after missing the entirety of the previous season. The NBA acknowledged that he had already served 20 games due to his absence last year, so he will be absent for the first 10 games of the 2023-24 season.

Bridges’ suspension was a result of an alleged domestic violence incident involving the mother of his children, which occurred in June 2022. He was arrested and faced multiple domestic violence charges but pled no contest.

As part of the plea deal, Bridges received three years of probation, avoided jail time, and was mandated to complete 52 weeks of counseling, 100 hours of community service, and adhere to a one-year protective order.

Charlotte Hornets signed Bridges to a 1-year qualifying offer this offseason valued at $7.9 million. As a restricted free agent, Bridges didn’t attract much market interest, but Charlotte remains hopeful that re-signing him will be a worthwhile investment.
