The former standout from Baylor University averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 37.0% from the field and 32.9% from beyond the three-point line.

On Thursday, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype brought the news that the Suns have released Wainright, stating, “The Phoenix Suns have waived forward Ishmail Wainright, as confirmed by league sources.”

Wainright has been part of the NBA for two seasons, all with the Suns, holding career averages of 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. He maintains shooting percentages of 37.8% from the field and 32.8% from the three-point range across 105 regular season games. Wainright has also contributed in 13 NBA playoff games.

The Suns are coming off a season where they secured the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a record of 45-37. Their journey in the NBA playoffs included a first-round victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in five games, followed by a second-round defeat to the Denver Nuggets in six games.

Following a ten-year playoff hiatus, the Suns have now reached the postseason for the third consecutive season, with an NBA Finals appearance in 2021.

The Phoenix Suns are set to kick off the 2023-24 regular season on October 24 when they visit the Golden State Warriors at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Armed with a talented roster featuring Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, they are among the league’s top contenders.
