The Golden State Warriors will host the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James to start their NBA Championship defense. Most of the Warriors’ schedule for the upcoming season is still up in the air. However, on Saturday, their opening night opponent was revealed.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium claimed that the Warriors will host the Lakers at Chase Center on October 18 and will be presented with their rings before the match.

Charania tweeted, “Scheduled for the NBA’s 2022-23 opening night and ring ceremony on TNT: Lakers at Warriors, Oct. 18, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium.”

Meanwhile, the Warriors will play the Lakers on the NBA’s opening night for the second year in a row. They locked horns on October 1, the previous NBA season, when the Warriors crushed the Lakers with a score of 121-114 in Los Angeles. Stephen Curry led the Warriors, scoring 21 points and making ten assists. On the other hand, LeBron James led the Lakers with 34 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, and Anthony Davis chipped in with 33 points and 11 rebounds.

This game is currently a mismatch. The Warriors are the defending champions and have enough talent on the roster to rip the Lakers apart. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Lakers haven’t made any major roster changes yet despite missing the playoffs last year. However, they are in pursuit of Kyrie Irving, a foe the Warriors are familiar with. He was the one who denied the Warriors from winning back-to-back titles in 2016. Moreover, the Lakers are still looking for trades to get rid of Russell Westbrook, their disappointing addition from a season ago, whether Irving is available or not.

Meanwhile, it has always been a worth-watching fixture of the NBA for almost ten years when LeBron James goes up against Stephen Curry. The two greats have faced each other in four NBA finals between 2015 and 2018. On top of that, they also played four straight Christmas games in that period. They played against each other on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 2021, and nine months later, they confronted each other on the opening day of the previous season. And indeed, the NBA is once again looking to them for a major television game this season.
