NBA Preseason Is Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren Show

In the NBA preseason, Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren put on a remarkable display during their respective debuts. Despite Holmgren’s Oklahoma City Thunder narrowly defeating Wembanyama’s San Antonio Spurs 122-121, the focus was on the outstanding performance of these towering rookie talents. Their first-ever NBA matchup showcased their exceptional blend of size, shooting prowess, skills, and athleticism, both inside the paint and beyond the arc.

Debutants Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren

During the first quarter, Wembanyama impressed with 10 points and a block, hitting four of his initial five shots. Holmgren responded with 14 points and seven rebounds in the same quarter, demonstrating his shooting range with a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer.

Holmgren displayed his versatility by securing defensive rebounds and initiating fast breaks for the Thunder. In a physical play at the rim midway through the first quarter, Wembanyama scored an and-one, sending Holmgren to the floor. Wembanyama also showcased his defensive skills by stripping the ball from a driving Cason Wallace and contributing to a transition dunk.

In the second quarter, Wembanyama made an acrobatic scoop shot at the rim after driving from beyond the 3-point line. The two rising stars exchanged consecutive 3-pointers from the top of the key.

Wembanyama finished with 20 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a block, shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc in just 19 minutes of play. Holmgren posted 21 points, nine rebounds, and one block, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and making both of his 3-point attempts in 16 minutes of action.

These performances left the NBA and its fans eagerly anticipating what these young talents could bring to the league. Wembanyama, long-awaited as one of the most-hyped prospects since LeBron James in 2003, has finally arrived in the NBA. Holmgren, the 2022 No. 2 draft pick, is making his debut after overcoming a Lisfranc injury that sidelined him for his entire rookie season. Both players, surrounded by promising young talent, have the potential to fuel a Western Conference rivalry for years to come.
