Kobe Bryant Statue: Los Angeles Lakers to Unveil It in 2024

The Los Angeles Lakers are set to unveil a Kobe Bryant statue honoring the legendary Kobe on February 8, 2024, just before their home game against the Denver Nuggets. This homage will be placed at Crypto.com Arena, commemorating Bryant’s remarkable career as a Hall of Famer and his enduring connection with the Lakers.

Announced on August 24, known as “Kobe Day” due to its alignment with his jersey numbers (Nos. 8 and 24), the Lakers plan to reveal the statue. Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s wife, conveyed that the Kobe Bryant statue would grace Star Plaza, located outside the arena. The unveiling will occur before the Lakers’ game against the Denver Nuggets at 10 p.m. ET, and Vanessa Bryant expressed her honor and gratitude for the recognition.

Kobe Bryant, who spent his entire 20-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, left an indelible mark on the franchise and the city. The unveiling of Kobe Bryant statue is a symbolic gesture that pays tribute to his legacy. The statue’s unveiling date, 2/8/24, holds significance as Kobe wore the numbers 8 and 24 during his Lakers career, while his daughter Gianna wore No. 2 during her youth basketball games. Tragically, both Bryant and his daughter lost their lives in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

Following his retirement, Kobe Bryant was involved in the initial planning stages of the statue’s creation. The Kobe Bryant statue, sculpted by renowned artist Julie Rotblatt Amrany from the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany, marks the first in a series of physical tributes dedicated to honoring his remarkable legacy.

The Lakers have a tradition of honoring their legends with statues at Star Plaza, including Elgin Baylor, Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, and Chick Hearn. This statue’s location at the heart of the city underscores the impact Bryant had on Los Angeles. The unveiling ceremony on February 8, 2024, will be held outside the arena, with details to be revealed in due course.

Kobe Bryant’s influence extended far beyond his playing career, as his “Mamba Mentality” continues to inspire individuals worldwide. The Kobe Bryant statue will provide a tangible presence to honor his remarkable accomplishments and contributions to basketball history. Bryant’s legacy includes 18 NBA All-Star selections, five NBA championships, two Olympic gold medals, and numerous accolades that solidify his position among the greatest players in the sport’s history. His impact on the Lakers franchise is immeasurable, as he holds numerous records for both the regular season and playoff performances.

The Lakers retired Bryant’s jersey numbers, 8 and 24, in 2017, an indication of his enduring impact on the team and the game of basketball. The unveiling of the statue serves as a lasting tribute to a man whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
