Warner Bros. Discovery and Cosm: Sports 'Shared Reality' Venues"

Prepare to step into the future of sports entertainment as Warner Bros. Discovery partners with Cosm, an immersive technology company, to bring “shared reality” experiences to sports fans. Cosm is set to open two groundbreaking venues, one in Los Angeles spanning 65,000 square feet and another in Dallas covering 70,000 square feet. These innovative spaces will cater to around 800 fans eager to immerse themselves in select live sports broadcasts aired on TNT, creating an experience that closely replicates being at the game.

The star attractions of these Cosm venues are the colossal domes housing 360-degree, 87-foot diameter 8K LED screens, reminiscent of James Dolan’s Las Vegas Sphere, which debuted in September. However, while the Sphere primarily focuses on live entertainment, Cosm’s vision centers on transforming broadcasts into unforgettable and immersive experiences. Think of it as offering a courtside view at NBA games or a rink-side perspective for hockey matches, all without the need for headsets or glasses.

Cosm accomplishes this remarkable feat by employing multicamera productions to simulate the sensation of sitting on the court during a basketball game or right beside the pitch at a soccer match. While it may not be 3D, the dome viewing effect is designed to make viewers feel as though they’ve stepped into the heart of the arena.

Jeb Terry, CEO at Cosm, emphasized the shared goal of leveraging technology to redefine the human experience. He stated in an exclusive CNBC interview, “We buy into that same kind of notion of leveraging amazing technology to give the human experience something they’ve never seen before. With the Sphere, it’s big, huge, grand scale. Ours is more of a smaller format and really focused on live sports and live programming — like you’re absolutely there.”

The collaboration between Warner Bros. Discovery and Cosm signals a promising revolution in the way sports fans engage with their favorite games. As these shared reality venues come to life, they offer not only an extraordinary viewing experience but also the potential to bring fans closer to the action than ever before, truly immersing them in the world of sports. It’s an exciting step forward for the sports industry, providing a glimpse into the thrilling future of live sports entertainment.
