NBA Free Agency News: Mac McClung to Sign with Orlando Magic Reportedly

The Orlando Magic boasts a wealth of young guards and is introducing another one into the mix. As we progress toward the 2024 season NBA free agency news states that Mac McClung has reportedly agreed to a partially guaranteed contract with the team, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The former standout from Georgetown and Texas Tech aims to secure a spot on a team after participating in just four NBA games during his initial two professional seasons.

McClung had only played one game for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, but he achieved notable success with the Delaware Blue Coats. The reigning slam dunk champion of 2023 averaged 18.9 points, 5.3 assists, and 3.4 rebounds across 31 games for the 76ers’ G League affiliate. He maintained a field goal percentage of 54.8 percent and a three-point shooting accuracy of 47.4 percent. However, despite his achievements, it might be challenging for him to secure playing time due to the presence of tall and agile ballhandlers on the Orlando roster.

Markelle Fultz is coming off a strong season, setting career highs in both points (13.9) and assists (5.7) per game. Additionally, Cole Anthony and Jalen Suggs provided crucial scoring and defensive intensity off the bench last season. Anthony Black, the sixth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, will join this trio of guards in 2023.

NBA free agency news McClung faces a significant challenge if he aims to break into the rotation, despite his success in the G League. He has averaged 21.8 points per game over 55 appearances, playing for the Windy City Bulls, South Bay Lakers, and Blue Coats.
