NBA All-Star Weekend Set for 3-Point Showdown: Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu

The forthcoming NBA All-Star Weekend promises a fresh and exciting addition to its lineup, as two iconic 3-point contest champions, Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu, are set to engage in a thrilling shootout in Indianapolis next month. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported this exciting face-off between the Golden State Warriors sharpshooter and the New York Liberty’s star.

Curry, a two-time NBA 3-point contest winner in 2015 and 2021, will go head-to-head with Ionescu, who achieved a remarkable feat by setting a record with 37 points in the final of the WNBA 3-point contest last year.

While the specific rules of the contest, including the 3-point line to be used by each player, are yet to be disclosed, the anticipation for this showdown has been steadily building. Curry subtly hinted at the possibility earlier in a segment with Warriors rookie Brandin Podziemski, a moment serendipitously captured by TNT’s cameras.

The prospect of this contest has been teased by Curry and Ionescu for some time. Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu stellar performance in the WNBA shoot-out, where she showcased her exceptional shooting skills, she took to Twitter to propose a shootout challenge to Curry. The Warriors’ star promptly responded, expressing his interest in the contest.

While WNBA stars have previously participated in NBA All-Star Weekend events, primarily in the celebrity game and the shooting stars competition, none have taken part in the 3-point contest. Ionescu’s inclusion in this high-profile contest presents a unique opportunity to showcase women’s basketball on one of the NBA’s grandest stages.

Scheduled from Feb. 16-18 in Indianapolis, NBA All-Star Weekend will feature a revamped format with the game returning to its traditional East-West structure, abandoning the selected teams. The Curry-Ionescu 3-point contest adds an extra layer of excitement to an already highly anticipated weekend.
