While we wait for the 2022–23 NBA season’s complete schedule to be announced at some time this week, many have the question in mind when does the NBA regular season start?
The league already has an official start date for the upcoming season, the Christmas Day games have already been revealed, and some other crucial matchups have also been leaked.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the 2022–23 NBA season will get underway on October 18 with two games.
Shams Charania tweeted about the Regular NBA Season:
“Sources: NBA’s 2022-23 Opening Night, Oct. 18 on TNT:
-76ers at Celtics
-And as previously reported: Lakers at Warriors.”
Philadelphia 76ers and Boston’s four-game series
The first game will feature the Philadelphia 76ers visiting the defending Eastern Conference champions in the Boston Celtics, while the second game will be on the opposite side of the country as the defending champions the Golden State Warriors have their wing ceremony.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the NBA is likely to announce its complete 2022–23 schedule on Wednesday, August 17. During the 2021–22 season, the 76ers and Celtics split their four-game series against one another after each team went 51–31 overall and claimed a road victory. Boston advanced all the way to the NBA Finals, but Philadelphia was eliminated after a six-game series against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
On the other hand, Golden State prevailed in three of the four games in which the Lakers and Warriors met last year. The Lakers’ lone victory over the Golden came on March 5 in Los Angeles, when neither Golden State nor Los Angeles had Anthony Davis. This will be the second time in a row that the Lakers and Warriors have faced off on Opening Night, as they did so when the 2021–22 season began.
On October 18, a night when some of the league’s greatest players enter the court, four clubs that will be competing for a championship during the 2022–23 season will get things started. On Opening Night to begin the 76th season of the league, Joel Embiid, James Harden, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green should all be on the field.
