Mike Miles Jr. Infuses ‘Local Dallas Grit’ into the Mavs

Following a productive stint in the Summer League that earned him a two-way contract with the Dallas Mavericks, Mike Miles Jr. is poised for a promising season in the G-League, with potential opportunities to serve as a backup to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the future.

The Summer League proved instrumental for the rookie, as he averaged an impressive 12.2 points and 3.8 assists per game. Standing at 6-2, this versatile guard’s performance earned him a two-way deal, enabling him to split his time between the Dallas Mavericks and their G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends.

Mavs GM Nico Harrison expressed his confidence in Mike, stating, “Mike has a track record of winning at every level of basketball, from clinching a gold medal with Team USA in 2021 to leading his high school, Lancaster High, on a state championship run, and delivering multiple winning seasons at TCU.”

Harrison further praised Miles, describing him as a tenacious, physically strong guard who competes fiercely on both ends of the court. He emphasized that, during his time at TCU, Mike showcased his dynamic scoring ability while maintaining exceptional efficiency. The GM expects Miles to infuse the team with the resilience and competitive spirit emblematic of Dallas.

Miles, a Dallas native whose alma mater, TCU, is a mere 45-minute drive from the American Airlines Center in Fort Worth, is deeply connected to the Dallas community. His commitment to the city is unwavering, and the fact that he went undrafted only adds to his motivation to prove himself in the place he calls home.

“I don’t have to uproot and move elsewhere,” Miles emphasized during the Summer League. “I grew up just 20 minutes from here, so it’s truly a blessing.”

As a smaller guard, Miles’ toughness and physicality for his size make him a valuable asset in driving plays, while his adept ball-handling and playmaking skills enable him to excel in scoring off the dribble and setting up easy points for his teammates.

“I simply stick to my style of play,” Miles remarked. “Most people are aware of my ability to attack the rim…some might doubt my shooting, but I can actually shoot quite well. I’d say I’m a pretty decent shooter. I’m determined to showcase that.”
