Juan Toscano-Anderson Secures a New Team After Receiving Interest from the Warriors

Juan Toscano-Anderson, a former Golden State Warriors forward, has secured a new team after failing to secure a training camp deal with the franchise.

The 30-year-old athlete will now be playing for the Mexico City Capitanes in the NBA G League, as recently confirmed by the team. Toscano-Anderson had initially aimed to continue his NBA career, having wrapped up the previous season with the Utah Jazz.

There was speculation whether the Golden State Warriors should have included Juan Toscano-Anderson in their training camp to compete for the 14th roster spot. Toscano-Anderson had undergone multiple workouts at the Warriors’ facility during the offseason. It was expected that the 2022 NBA champion would be part of the franchise’s 21-man training camp roster.

However, Golden State opted to focus on younger talents such as Kendric Davis, Javan Johnson, and Donovan Williams. They also favored veteran forward Rudy Gary and wing Rodney McGruder.

Toscano-Anderson, who hails from Oakland, began his NBA journey with the Warriors in the 2019-20 season after going undrafted in 2015. The 6’6″ forward played in 73 regular season games during Golden State’s victorious 2021-22 season.

Subsequently, Toscano-Anderson left the Warriors for the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason but struggled to make an impact before being traded, along with Russell Westbrook, to the Jazz in a three-team transaction in February.

Throughout the last season, ‘JTA’ appeared in a total of 52 games, averaging 3.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 13.5 minutes per game. His declining three-point shooting accuracy had become an issue over the past few seasons, which ultimately hindered him from securing another NBA contract.

Juan Toscano-Anderson will now embark on a journey to return to the NBA through the G League. Regardless of the path he takes, he will always be cherished by Warriors fans as a champion with an enduring legacy in franchise history.
