Heat Propose Bold Trade for OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. from Raptors

A suggestion has been put forth by an NBA analyst, proposing a major trade between the Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors, involving OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. Lee Tran from Fadeaway World has outlined the trade details as follows:

Incoming to Miami Heat: OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr.
Incoming to Toronto Raptors: Tyler Herro, Caleb Martin, 2030 First-Round Pick (MIA)
In the previous season, Anunoby maintained an average of 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists for the Raptors. His shooting percentages stood at 47.6% from the field, 38.7% from beyond the arc, and 83.8% from the free-throw line. Anunoby, selected by Toronto as the 23rd overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, signed a four-year, $72 million rookie contract extension in December 2020. He remains eligible for a four-year, $116 million extension with the Raptors.

Anunoby’s career NBA averages include 11.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists. Notably, he clinched the 2019 championship alongside the Raptors against the Golden State Warriors in six games. While there have been strong connections between Anunoby and the New York Knicks as well as the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto has indicated a lack of interest in trading the versatile player, who recently transitioned from Klutch Sports Group to CAA.

On the other hand, Trent Jr. posted an average of 17.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in the last season for the Raptors. His shooting percentages were 43.3% from the field, 36.9% from 3-point range, and 83.9% from the free-throw line. The 24-year-old player, who registered 166 successful 3-pointers in the 2022-23 season, exercised his 2023-24 player option worth $18.5 million.

Lee Tran emphasized the potential of this trade, stating, “There is no doubt that this deal would make the Heat a much better team. Inserting OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr. into the starting lineup would ensure the team has adequate spacing for Jimmy Butler, and the team would remain one of the best defensive squads in the league with this move.”

As the Miami Heat continue their pursuit of trading for Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard, who specifically desires a move to Miami, it is noteworthy that the Blazers have not been satisfied with the offers presented by the Heat for Lillard. In the event that securing Lillard proves challenging, the Miami franchise could consider reaching out to the Raptors and presenting an offer for OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr.
