Chicago Sky Rookie Kamilla Cardoso Sidelined with Shoulder Injury, Expected to Miss Start of WNBA Season

Chicago Sky rookie Kamilla Cardoso will be sidelined for the start of the WNBA season due to a shoulder injury sustained during the team’s preseason matchup against the Minnesota Lynx. The 6-foot-7 center is expected to miss four to six weeks as she recovers from the injury, the team announced on Monday.

Kamilla Cardoso, a former standout at South Carolina, played 13 minutes in the preseason game before getting hurt, contributing six points and four rebounds. She recently helped lead the Gamecocks to their second NCAA Tournament title and was a key player in their undefeated season, averaging 14.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game.

Selected as the third overall pick in the WNBA Draft, Kamilla Cardoso joins former LSU star Angel Reese as part of the Sky’s rookie class. Additionally, Chicago rookie guard Brynna Maxwell, who played for Utah and Gonzaga, is also sidelined with a knee injury and will be re-evaluated in three to four weeks.

The Sky, who are preparing for their second preseason game against the New York Liberty, may also be without Taya Reimer, who is in concussion protocol, and Isabelle Harrison, who is dealing with a knee injury, for the matchup at Wintrust Arena.
