Despite choosing to skip the 2023 FIBA World Cup to focus on his debut NBA season, the top overall draft pick, Victor Wembanyama to represent France at the Paris Olympics, is determined to chase Olympic gold with Team France in his home country.

The San Antonio Spurs rookie has recently reiterated his dedication to the French national team for the Summer Games next year, especially after France’s underwhelming performance at the FIBA World Cup last month, where he didn’t participate.

Wembanyama expressed his aspirations, stating, “Performing well at the Olympics would be a great story, I’ll be present at the Olympics, and there’s no other goal than gold.”

Reflecting on the FIBA World Cup, he commented, “The World Cup was very disappointing, But I have no judgment to make as I wasn’t there.”

His decision to forgo the World Cup was primarily to prepare for his inaugural NBA season.

France entered the World Cup as the previous Olympic silver medalist but unfortunately didn’t progress beyond the initial stage.
