The Philippines Display an Impressive Performance as the Qualifying Draw Ends at FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup

On the final day of the qualifying draw for the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3×3 Asia Cup at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, the men’s squad from the Philippines made a strong statement.

The Philippines firstly defeated Indonesia 21-15 before Joseph Eriobu impressed with a deadly buzzer beater playing against Jordan when the match was tied at 19-19. He helped his side win 2 in 2 matches.

They were placed in Pool C with Singapore and China.

China won the qualification round with ease, defeating Tonga 21-6 and Sri Lanka 21-8. Moreover, India advanced to Pool A with victories of 21-15 over Palestine and 20-19 over Turkmenistan. They will play against South Korea who qualified after beating both Kuwait 17-11 and Iran 19-15 to advance to the same group.

New Zealand defeated Palestine and India with resounding victories in the women’s qualifying.

After defeating Palestine 21-5 with ease, they defeated India 17-9 to advance to Pool C, where they will face China and Australia.

In Pool A, Uzbekistan will play Mongolia and Thailand after defeating Malaysia and Vietnam by scores of 17-11 and 21-7. In their qualifying matches, Thailand defeated the Philippines 13-11 and Jordan 16-7.

Tomorrow is when the major action is set to begin, with four pools of three teams each. Each group’s top team will advance to the quarterfinal round. The contest is expected to go on until Sunday (July 10).
