Shaquille O'Neal Responds to Devin Booker's Criticism of "Shaq" Shoes

Booker sparked the conflict by mockingly airing his dissatisfaction with his signature Nike shoe pair on social media. Furthermore, he compared his shoe with the ‘Shaq’ that did not move any fans. This showed Reebok that Booker is actually quite dynamic and he will never sign with a company that doesn’t share his values. Therefore he extended an offer to Booker to join Reebok the brand which he represents as the president.

Although O’Neal wrote an open letter offering Booker any deal on the table, the runner up who had been endorsed by Nike since 2015 and was under contract until 2029 did not respond directly. Nevertheless, by posting on his Instagram stories, West referred to his statement indirectly, he ‘killed’ the sales of O’Neal’s signature shoes.

Shaquille O’Neal was countering the argument by saying he won the sales war of his “Shaq” shoes with Booker which was the shoe having the highest sales. Although the flames of their conflict seemed to be doused once the incident of the Suns teammate, Isaiah Thomas, who was seen wearing Shaq’s shoes, was reported by the journalist.

The interaction between Booker and O’Neal demonstrates how basketball and sneaker culture converge and play in different individuals, including those who directly participate in basketball as well as those who enjoy it as spectators.
