Rockets Eyeing Trade Deadline: Potential Moves Involving Oladipo, Green, and More

Reports suggest that the Houston Rockets are gearing up for the trade deadline on February 8, 2024, eyeing potential roster improvements. According to insights from Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the team might be exploring options to bolster their squad by utilizing “tradeable contracts” involving players like Victor Oladipo, Jock Landale, Jeff Green, and future draft picks.

Despite a challenging 2022-23 season, Houston’s recent acquisitions of point guard Fred VanVleet, wing Dillon Brooks, and coach Ime Udoka have had a positive impact. The team’s performance has significantly improved, raising the prospect of a plausible playoff campaign.

Among the players potentially on the trading block, Victor Oladipo stands out, with an expiring contract worth $9.45 million for this season before his free agency. Oladipo, a two-time All-Star, is currently recovering from a torn patellar tendon sustained during last season’s playoffs while playing for the Miami Heat.

Jeff Green, owed $9.6 million, could also see the Rockets decline a team option for the 2024-25 season. Other veterans on expiring deals include Reggie Bullock, Boban Marjanovic, Aaron Holiday, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl. Additionally, Jock Landale, under a four-year, $32 million contract, has no guaranteed money remaining after this season.

With a promising start and 21-year-old Alperen Şengün showcasing potential as a future All-Star, the Rockets aim to capitalize on their current standing. Seeking their first playoffs since the post-James Harden era, the team appears poised to make strategic moves, potentially setting the stage for long-term success. As the trade deadline nears, Houston emerges as a team to monitor closely in the league’s ongoing trade talks and roster reconfigurations.
