Nikola Jokic Guides Nuggets Past LeBron-Led Lakers in Playoff Opener

The defending NBA champions, Denver Nuggets, wowed spectators in a wild-west-themed Western Conference playoff opener by coming from behind to snatch a close 114-103 win over the Lakers. Jokic plays an integral part of the Nuggets’ team and by leading them through against all odds, they were able to disband the Lakers.

Dominance of Nikola Jokic

Nikola Jokic scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and this contribution teamed up with others to seal a win for the Nuggets. His role as a double-threat and a facilitator on offense and a stopper on defense seems to have been a key factor in claiming the victory against the undefeated Thunder.

Containment of LeBron James

Regardless of LeBron James brilliant first half, when he scored 19 points, the Nuggets were able to keep him from having a significant effect in the second half of the game. Jame’s whose only 9 points came after the break, showed an inability to get in the rhythm and he could not find a way to solve the Nuggets’ defense in the crunch time.

Contributions from Supporting Cast

Jokic enjoyed good teamwork, especially when Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon both played well and put in a double-double Furthermore, Michael Porter Jr. too grabbed our attention due to some off-court personal adversities he had to battle with, whereby we can establish the fact that the Nuggets’ roster is highly cohesive.

Outlook for the Series

Through their ninth straight win over the Lakers, the Nuggets have raised the stakes for the teams who are to face them in the playoff opener. The Nuggets are fully aware of the Lakers’ competitive nature, yet they are committed to protecting their home floor and claiming further achievements in the series.

Closing Remarks

Through the playoff stages, the Nuggets keep alive their status as a mighty competitor in the Western Conference. The Nuggets are looking up to Nikola Jokic who is their leader, and the supporting cast is made up of the next level of players. Going ahead with a lineup of determined players, they can withstand the challenges this year and retain their NBA championship title.
