New York Knicks Part Ways with Taj Gibson Amid Roster Adjustments

The New York Knicks have decided to waive Taj Gibson despite his contribution as a Tom Thibodeau All-Star, as reported by Fred Katz of The Athletic and confirmed by the team.

Gibson, who signed a non-guaranteed veteran minimum contract in December to bolster frontcourt depth amidst injuries to Mitchell Robinson and Jericho Sims, played a commendable role in limited minutes, averaging 1.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in under 10 minutes of play.

However, the emergence of Isaiah Hartenstein as a starter, coupled with Sims’ return to full health and the acquisition of Precious Achiuwa in the OG Anunoby trade, has resulted in a crowded frontcourt rotation for the Knicks. With a complete lineup, Taj Gibson finds himself without a spot in the team’s current configuration.

The Knicks’ decision to prioritize retaining Ryan Arcidiacono, confirming his contract for the season, further underscores their strategic roster adjustments. Although the team is poised to be active during the trade deadline, the pursuit of a superstar trade appears deferred until at least the summer, given the absence of notable options available in the current market.
