Davis expressed, “It’s a strong source of motivation. Obviously, [Kentavious Caldwell-Pope] is a friend, so you kind of acknowledge his victory, saying, ‘You got this one.’ However, there was a great deal of chatter and mentions of ‘The Lakers’ dad.’ There was a substantial amount of that, and it was like, ‘Alright, we understand, you guys won.’ But LeBron James and I had conversations, expressing that ‘We can’t wait.'”
Despite their increased motivation for opening night, the Lakers once again succumbed to the Nuggets, with Nikola Jokic emerging as the standout player on the court. During a recent episode of KG Certified, NBA legend Paul Pierce delivered a blunt message to Anthony Davis, noting that Jokic embraced the challenge while Davis did not.
Pierce commented on Davis’s performance against the Nuggets, saying, “It might be attributed to the ‘Joker effect.’ I’m not entirely sure. Joker is the most dominant player… [Jokic] accepted the challenge of facing Anthony Davis. Unfortunately, Anthony Davis did not reciprocate by taking up the challenge of matching up against Joker.”
