Ltvia shooting guard and team captain Dairis Bertans won’t be able to continue his participation in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 due to a hamstring injury.

The elder Bertans brother has suffered a left hamstring tear, which will force him to miss 5 weeks of action, the Latvian Basketball Association announced. Bertans hurt his hamstring in the second quarter of Latvia’s historical win against France.

The veteran of four FIBA EuroBasket tournaments confirmed to Latvian Television he will remain with the team and on the bench as Latvia finishes out the group phase and enters the Round of 16.

FIBA wishes Dairis Bertans a speedy recovery.
