Kevin Durant Makes Bold Claim: Believes He Should Be in NBA GOAT Conversation

In a recent interview, basketball icon Kevin Durant expressed his belief that he should be a prominent figure in the greatest of all time (GOAT) conversation in the NBA. Despite his legendary career and numerous accolades, Durant feels that his decision to join the Golden State Warriors has impacted his standing in the debate.

Durant, a multi-time MVP winner, three-time Olympic gold medalist, and two-time NBA champion, addressed his absence from widespread GOAT discussions in a conversation with The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin. When asked about why he isn’t more involved in the conversation, Durant pointed directly at his decision to join the Warriors in 2016.

“Because I went to the Warriors,” Durant stated. “Why shouldn’t I be in that? That’s the question you should ask. Why not? What haven’t I done?”

Durant’s move to the Warriors was met with controversy, as the team had already secured a championship in 2015 and set an NBA-record with 73 regular-season wins in 2016. Many anticipated that Durant’s arrival would almost guarantee additional championships for the Warriors.

GOAT conversation

While Durant acknowledges his remarkable achievements, he also alludes to the fact that he hasn’t reached certain milestones as frequently as other players in the GOAT conversation. Comparisons with basketball legends like Michael Jordan reveal disparities in championship wins, scoring titles, and MVP awards.

Although illustrious, Durant’s career faces the challenge of measuring up to players with more extensive resumes. Despite his unique combination of size, shooting prowess, and ball-handling skills, Durant recognizes the historical achievements of players like Jordan and LeBron James.

At 35 years old, Durant’s career continues, but closing the considerable gaps in certain statistical categories appears challenging. Nevertheless, Durant’s confidence in his legacy remains unwavering, as he asserts his place among the greatest basketball players ever. The ongoing debate prompts reflection on the subjective nature of evaluating greatness in the world of sports.
