Giannis Antetokounmpo Achieves Historic NBA Feat, Joins Elite Club with Jordan, James, and Garnett

Amidst an electrifying fourth quarter at the Fiserv Forum, 17,341 fans cheered for their franchise icon not for a dazzling block or a breathtaking dunk, but for a simple rebound. Giannis Antetokounmpo Achieves of Tari Eason’s missed shot at the 7:50 mark not only sealed the Milwaukee Bucks’ 128-119 victory over the Houston Rockets but also propelled him past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the Bucks’ all-time leading rebounder, boasting 7,165 career rebounds.

His stellar performance of 26 points and 17 rebounds in the game marked a significant milestone for Antetokounmpo, who now holds the Bucks’ franchise records in points, rebounds, and assists, joining an exclusive quartet in NBA history. This elite group includes the likes of Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves), LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), and Michael Jordan (Chicago Bulls), who have similarly led their respective franchises in all three statistical categories.

Reflecting on this achievement, Antetokounmpo expressed, “It’s a tremendous honor. It’s an accomplishment that remains etched in history. Just like I never imagined breaking Kareem’s record as a young kid from Greece, drafted and anticipated to play in the G League, nobody ever thought about that possibility.”

He continued, “There’ll surely be another player down the line who will surpass the records set by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Oscar Robertson, Marques Johnson, myself, and Khris. Hopefully, I’ll be present, not caught up with family duties or lost in an island paradise, to celebrate and applaud that individual.”

Hey, I’m Eric. I’ve been writing about basketball for years, and I still get excited every time I sit down to cover a game or dive into a player’s story. I’m all about the details that make the sport what it is—and I try to bring that same energy to everything I write.
