Cory Joseph Gears Up for His Return to the Court

Amidst the buzz and intrigue surrounding Chris Paul’s presence with the Golden State Warriors, it’s easy to momentarily overlook another seasoned point guard the team acquired during the offseason. Enter Cory Joseph, who signed a veteran’s minimum contract with the team.

Joseph’s appearances on the court have been limited thus far due to a lower back injury. However, there’s good news as he’s inching closer to making his return, as he participated in his first practice session with the Warriors on Wednesday. As for his availability for Friday’s preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers, the team is yet to make a final determination.

Having Joseph back in prime condition at the start of the season would be a significant boost for the Warriors. While they undoubtedly boast the league’s top point guard duo in Chris Paul and Steph Curry, a lack of depth in playmaking becomes evident when Joseph is sidelined. With Draymond Green dealing with an injury and rookie Brandin Podziemski likely not ready for substantial playing time early in the season, Joseph’s experience and solid three-point shooting will be a welcome addition.

This marks Cory Joseph’s 13th NBA season, and he’s donning the jersey of his sixth franchise after being selected 29th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2011 NBA Draft—the same draft that brought Klay Thompson to the Dubs with the 11th pick. Joseph’s reliable veteran presence and his ability to make threes make his return to the court a much-anticipated event for the Golden State Warriors.
