As expected, China won two straight games to move to the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2022 pool in the qualifying draw on Thursday. China, who was assigned to group H, defeated Tonga 21-6 and Sri Lanka 21-8 with ease.

In Saturday’s Group C matches, China will compete against the hosts Singapore and the Philippines, with the top two teams moving on to the quarterfinals. Since the FIBA World Cup in Belgium in June, China’s lineup has altered; at the Asia Cup, Liu Zeyi, Lyu Junhu, Zhao Jiaren, and Zhao Jiayi will play for China.

China’s head coach Wang Zhanyu after the Qualification

“The Asia Cup is a big challenge for these four players and the whole team, but they are an important piece in our preparations ahead of the Paris Olympic Games.”

“This competition can be a chance for them to progress. We will take every game seriously and do our best,” he added.

On Saturday, pool games will begin as the China women’s team’s Asia Cup debut. They will compete against Australia and New Zealand for a spot in the quarterfinals.
