Caitlin Clark Surpasses Brittney Griner on Scoring List in No. 2 Iowa's Dominant Win Over Wisconsin

In a standout performance, Iowa women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark achieved a significant milestone by surpassing former Baylor standout Brittney Griner on the NCAA Women’s Division I all-time scoring list. The remarkable feat occurred during Iowa’s commanding 96-50 victory over Wisconsin, where Clark needed just 10 points to exceed Griner’s record. Notably, she reached this milestone with a free throw at the 7:02 mark in the second quarter.

Caitlin Clark, a senior at Iowa, has consistently delivered high-level performances throughout her college career. Displaying scoring prowess, she contributed 32 points in the recent triumph over Wisconsin, elevating her career total to 3,306 points and surpassing Griner’s 3,283 points.

As the current leading scorer in the nation with an average of 30.9 points per game, Clark’s exceptional scoring rate positions her to potentially claim the top spot on the all-time scoring list by mid-February. The current leaders ahead of her include Missouri State’s Jackie Stiles (3,393 points), Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell (3,402 points), and Washington’s Kelsey Plum (3,527 points), with Plum and Mitchell actively playing in the WNBA.

Despite a slow start in the game against Wisconsin, where Clark missed her first four shots, she finished strong, converting 8 of 18 field goals, including 6 of 14 in 3-pointers. The Hawkeyes displayed a collective effort, with teammates Kate Martin and Sydney Affolter making significant contributions, scoring 16 and 12 points, respectively. Iowa’s teamwork was evident with 25 assists on 29 field goals and 15 successful 3-pointers.

While Wisconsin faced challenges, grappling with foul trouble and accumulating 25 fouls, the Hawkeyes’ offensive onslaught led by Caitlin Clark proved insurmountable. The achievement not only marks a personal milestone for Clark but also highlights her instrumental role in propelling Iowa women’s basketball to new heights. As she continues her remarkable journey, Clark remains a focal point in the competitive landscape of women’s college basketball, captivating fans and peers alike.
