Brooklyn Nets Reportedly Acquire Keon Johnson Recent NBA 1st-Round Pick

The Brooklyn Nets reportedly acquire Keon Johnson, as reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Johnson, who previously played 40 regular season games for the Portland Trail Blazers, is a former standout from the University of Tennessee. In his previous season, he averaged 4.7 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 37.6% from the field and 34.6% from beyond the three-point line.

During the offseason, Johnson was traded from the Trail Blazers to the Phoenix Suns, but the Suns subsequently waived the 21-year-old, making him a free agent.

In a recent announcement by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it was revealed that Johnson will sign a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets. Wojnarowski’s statement reads, “Free agent G Keon Johnson has agreed on a two-way contract with the Brooklyn Nets, sources tell ESPN. Johnson was the 21st overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.”


Johnson has previously played for two seasons in the NBA, representing the Trail Blazers and the Clippers. Across 77 regular season games, he holds career averages of 5.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while maintaining shooting percentages of 36.2% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the three-point line.

The Brooklyn Nets, who currently hold a 1-2 record in the early games of the season, recently secured a 133-121 victory over the Charlotte Hornets in North Carolina. They are scheduled to play their next game against the Miami Heat in Florida.

In the previous season, the Nets were the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference with a 45-37 record. While they made the NBA playoffs, they were eliminated in the first round by the Philadelphia 76ers, led by Joel Embiid.
