Basketball 'Court' at Indy Airport Promoting NBA All-Star Game Turns Heads

Passengers at Indianapolis International Airport are in for a unique experience as the NBA All-Star Game approaches. The team set up a full-sized replica basketball court in the main terminal. It completes with two baskets, boundary lines, and the All-Star logo. Although travelers can’t shoot hoops on the concourse, the installation has become a show-stopper, attracting the attention of many.

This innovative promotion has been gaining positive feedback from passengers, with plans to add more features as the city prepares to host its first All-Star Game since 1985 on Feb. 18. Airport officials aim to enhance the experience for travelers and basketball fans alike.

“It’s quite innovative,” said Kevin Hammill, a resident of the San Francisco Bay area, expressing his admiration for the unique promotion. The basketball court replica adds an engaging and creative touch to the airport environment, capturing the essence of one of Indiana’s beloved traditions—basketball.

A Fitting Tribute to Indiana’s Basketball Culture

Over three nights, the installation team printed and installed the 50-foot wide, 94-foot long pressure-sensitive vinyl, non-slip floor, providing a realistic feel to the court. While basketballs are not provided, and shooting is prohibited, travelers are enjoying the opportunity to engage with the installation, with some even pretending to line up shots.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the postponement of the initially scheduled NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis in 2021. The decision to set up a basketball court replica aligns with Indiana’s rich basketball culture, making it a fitting.

As travelers stroll through Civic Plaza, they encounter this distinctive feature that adds a touch of excitement to the airport experience.  The replica court has garnered attention not only for its novelty but also for its realistic details.

Adjacent to the replica court is the Indiana Pacers Courtside Club, offering a family-friendly sports bar experience. The location is open to the general public, allowing visitors to order food or drinks, step onto the replica court. It enjoys a meal at the baseline—an experience that echoes the presence of basketball celebrities.

This creative promotion underscores the intersection of sports and travel, creating a memorable and interactive environment for airport visitors.
