Kyrie Andrew Irving is an American professional Basketball player, currently playing for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kyrie Irving was born in Melbourne, Australia, and is the son of Drederick Irving and Elizabeth (née Larson) Irving, American expatriates. He was the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by Cleveland Cavaliers and went on to be named Rookie of the Year. He also won the NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016. A seven-time All-Star and three-time member of the All-NBA Team, Irving played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils before joining the Cavaliers in 2011.

Irving’s championship-winning three-point field goal in the 2016 NBA Finals completed the Cavaliers’ epic comeback victory over the Golden State Warriors. Irving demanded a trade after another Finals participation in 2017 and was moved to the Boston Celtics. He spent two seasons with the Celtics before signing as a free agent with the Brooklyn Nets in 2019. He also represented the United States at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning gold in both events. He was chosen vice-president of the National Basketball Players Association in February 2020, succeeding Pau Gasol.

Irving was a candidate for a spot on the Australian Olympic team for the 2012 Olympics. He chose not to represent his homeland, instead of focusing on selection for the 2016 Olympic Games for the United States national team. Irving was a member of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup-winning United States national team. He was voted the tournament’s MVP after assisting Team USA to earn the gold medal. He started every game in the tournament, averaging 12.1 points and 3.6 assists per game, with 26 points in the gold-medal game. He was then named the 2014 Male Athlete of the Year by USA Basketball.
